Mama Doreen's Tea Rooms, Harrogate | Review

I'd been searching online for a cute tea room to visit whilst on our trip to Harrogate, as we all know I love me some afternoon tea! I stumbled across Mama Doreen's on Facebook, and it looked incredible! I love the shabby chic style and their presentation was insane.

As soon as we entered I couldn't resist whipping out my camera and capturing all the amazing details, from the giant, glistening, chandeliers, to the cute and quirky signs. The shelves were lined with clear jars of vintage sweeties, and there was the smell of cake and coffee in the air.

We luckily managed to snag a table, but I would highly recommend booking as it was super busy. We sat at a sweet heart style table in the main shop, the room downstairs was completely full. However, I'm not going to lie, I was secretly pleased we were sat upstairs as I could snap away until my heart's content!

After perusing the menu I opted for a caramel macchiato. The Mr had a classic earl grey tea and we plumped for the cake platter to share.

When they brought out the cakes my mouth fell to the floor, they looked amazing!

We were spoilt for choice, with eyes bigger than our tummies we dug in! There was; a classic Scone with delicious, sticky, strawberry & prosecco jam, a scrumptious, melt in the mouth, buttery, shortbread and chocolate moon, a slab of toffee and apple cake, topped with sweet, crunchy, brown sugar, a light, fluffy, strawberry and chocolate meringue, and finally the cake of the day, a tiny, sticky toffee pudding cupcake, topped with soft chunks of toffee. Did that make your mouth water?

It's safe to say we devoured the entire platter and were suitably stuffed to the brim. Who could waste any of that cakey goodness though? Not me that's for sure!

The service was fantastic, the staff were very attentive, friendly, and made us feel very welcome - which was amazing to say how busy they were! If we're ever in the area again we will definitely be going back for the full afternoon tea! If you're ever in Harrogate and fancy some delicious cake, I high recommend you pay Mama Doreen's a visit.

Summer Dreaming

Monochrome sleeveless jacket- Peacocks | Jeans - Primark | T-shirt - Primark | Boots - Primark | Bag - Ted Baker

Wahoo, the sun finally made an appearance after what felt like an eternity of rain! I'd been waiting for a day like this to shoot this summery boho inspired look, and when the sun finally descended on us I turned to bae and was like, that's it get the car ready were off to take outfit photos! Normally this would cause him to groan, however, thanks to Pokemon Go it was a win, win, situation for us both, Hoorah!

I bought this gorgeous, light weight, monochrome sleeveless jacket a while ago and couldn't wait to wear it. I could picture it with casual tees and denim shorts, and although it was the hottest day of the year, I just couldn't bare the thought of my milk bottle legs being on show - next time I will remember to fake tan! Instead I opted for some light denim, mom style jeans.

I love the high waist fit of the jeans and find this style very flattering on me, as I'm not the tallest person! I paired it with a simple brown belt and some matching brown ankle boots. My casual tee, believe it or not, was from Primark Men's section for a bargain £2.50! I prefer the men's t-shirts because I love the high necks on them, I find the women's ones are always very low cut!

We frolicked about in the warm setting sun, strolling hand in hand, only broken when there was a Magmar in the near vicinity. It was a lovely summers night.

Post Cards From Harrogate

If you've seen my , then you will know that I spent last weekend in Harrogate for my Birthday. We had a really lovely long weekend break, meandering in and our of tea rooms, popping into shops and taking long strolls. It was so nice to spend quality time together, away from the daily routine of work, cleaning the house, cooking - you know the drill!

I decided to pop together a little photo diary from our weekend.

We spent most of our time meandering through the pretty streets, popping in and out of tea rooms, and lusting after all the beautiful houses. It was so lovely to relax, and spend time in each others company, it was definitely a well needed break!

We bought sweets at the oldest sweet shop in England, ate a lavish Chinese inside the Royal Baths and had plenty of drinks in the many little pubs. Harrogate definitely has something for everyone, if you like walking, shopping, eating, and exploring I would highly recommend a weekend here.

A Weekend Escape | Baytree House, Harrogate

We set off Friday morning for a long weekend in Harrogate for my Birthday and a bit of R & R.  After what seemed like an eternity, we pulled up at the stunning Baytree House, a strikingly beautiful B&B situated on the corner of a picturesque street. Our home for the weekend.

If you follow me on Instagram, you'll have gathered that I'm home décor obsessed. Baytree House did not disappoint! You arrive through a pretty floral front garden, which leads up to the beautiful porch. The pale grey door and chandelier entrance are captivating. I already knew I was going to love it here before we made it through the second door!

We were led up to the second floor and shown to our room, number 10. It was bright, spacious and inviting. We had a huge sleigh bed, and a little snug single bed! A perfect corner for a coffee and a good book!

The bathroom was exquisite, with gorgeous tiles and a generous sized shower, it was everything you could want. I particularly loved the little extra touches; the mini shampoo & shower gels, as well as the shoe bag on the door. It's the little things that make a place so much more homely.

After returning back to the B&B from our first day of exploring, we dove straight into our big comfy bed, and fell into a peaceful slumber, almost immediately!

Morning came all too soon, but breakfast was on the cards, and we were excited to see what there was on offer. Plus, I had spied the pretty dining room when we first arrived, and couldn't wait to have a proper nosey around it!

The dining room is so homely and is very country chic in design, with little ornamental hens dotted around, and flowers on the tables.

There was a wide choice for the continental breakfast which included; home baked bread, fresh fruit, yogurt and a good selection of cereals. There was also a cooked breakfast option, which had so much variety to choose from too. There was; eggs benedict, a full Yorkshire breakfast (which also had a vegetarian option!), porridge and more!

We opted for the Yorkshire breakfast and Porridge with Honey, and it was delicious! Also how cute is that honey pot!

We were very impressed, it was super filling and delicious. A good hearty way to set us up for another day of exploring.

Overall, we had a wonderful stay at Baytree House, and I would definitely go back again. The location is perfect, as you can just walk straight into Harrogate centre, where all the bars and restaurants are. The owners are brilliant, they made us feel comfortable and welcome from the moment we arrived, and most importantly the room was perfect.

We had the best relaxing stay, which was much needed amid the hectic wedding planning we have going on right now - as well as home renovations! Life is all go, and a break was just what the doctor ordered, we feel re-charged and ready to carry on!

Room Reveal | Our Living Room

Hoorah, the first of our room reveals is finally ready! If you've been following my blog for a while then you may have seen that a few months ago we purchased our first home! I wrote up a post all about our plans for the home, which you can read about

It has taken us a long time to get to this point, but we have finally got one almost complete room! I say almost as we are waiting to get some new cream blinds put up in the bay window. I'm also not set on the T.V stand but it will be staying for the time being. There's always work to be done, but for now I am really happy with how this room has turned out.

So as all renovation posts go, I should start at the beginning.

The room is a very generous size, with a gorgeous fireplace as the main focal point. Our aim was to make this room light, bright, yet cosy. A place where we can unfurl after a long day at work and relax.

The re-decorating of this room wasn't too drastic, we just re-painted the walls whiter, with the shade 'Timeless' by Dulux, and re-papered the chimney breast. I actually really loved the pattern of the original wallpaper, but I'm much more a neutral gal at heart, so we chose the same paper but in a cream and pale gold.

During:

We moved everything out, stripped off the wallpaper and began. We had already painted the walls when we first moved in, but waited a while to get started on the rest. It took longer than we thought to strip the chimney breast wallpaper as it had 3 layers of paper!

After

It's hard to get a feel for the sense of space this room has from the photos, but it's such a good size that we've managed to fit a lot of great furniture pieces in the room, without having to compromise on space. We have used the three seater sofa to create a kind of walk way from the front door to the hall way, in which we have included our Next 'Home' mat, and a vintage style shoe rack for when visitors come.

Our main hall way is actually at the side of the house which once we have redecorated will be used as our main entrance, but, for shopping and visitors the front entrance is obviously the easiest option.

Our book cases are from Ikea, and I have filled them with books, decorative accessories and photographs. I really like how these look and plan to switch up the accessories as the seasons change. at the moment they are rather season neutral, but I look forward to adding pretty autumn and winter pieces to them! - Not wishing the summer away though!

We wanted a nice family space, with a cosy vibe. I am so excited for family gatherings, Christmas, parties, and of course starting our own family. When decorating this room all of these things were in the fore front of my mind.

I hope you've enjoyed a sneaky peak at our first completed room! I think the next room reveal will be our dining room, I have a few finishing touches to do but its largely finished wahoo!
