How I Find My Style Inspiration

Fashion is very much an individualistic thing and with social media taking centre stage, there are so many ways to express your personal style. For those days where I'm left staring into the abyss of my wardrobe, wondering what on earth I'm possibly going to wear, I turn to a few, select platforms, to help give me inspiration.

The following platforms not only help me with my day to day outfit struggles, but are also really useful for; seeing the up and coming trends, helping you style specific pieces, or just for a plain old nosey at what other people are wearing.

I thought I would share with you where I turn to for my style inspiration.

1. Instagram.

My favourite social media platform, I could spend hours scrolling through this app. I'm going to be featuring a blog post all about my 5 favourite fashion accounts on Instagram soon, so keep your eyes peeled for that one. However, it's not just about individual accounts, the use of the #hashtag also gets my creative fashion juices flowing.

Most stores have clocked the effectiveness that social media has on fashion, and therefore have devised clever hashtags for individuals to show off their items. There's #myboohoostyle #imwearingri #thisisnewlook and many more. I love searching through these hashtags, as you get to see pieces from your favourite stores, styled by real people. I love to see how people style pieces differently, as this gives me my own ideas on how I would style it.

My number one fashion inspiration platform has to be Instagram.

2. Pinterest.

Pinterest is a site where you can create mood boards/wish lists by pinning pictures you like to 'boards', a bit like a virtual mood board. I literally love Pinterest, I have a home décor board, fashion board, travel board, you name it I have it. You can pin what your heart desires. It's a particularly great platform for fashion too, by typing in key specifics such as 'summer fashion' it brings up pages and pages of pictures that people have uploaded of their summer fashion looks. You can then pin these to your own board for future reference, like when you need a cute outfit for that girly picnic you have next week, or that date you've been looking forward to. You can also search for specifics like 'white tshirt outfit', and you will be shown hundreds of ways to style a white t-shirt. Great for those days where you just don't know what to put on.

3. Primania.

If you've followed me for a while, you will know that I shop a lot at Primark. They have the latest trends for great prices. I love looking through Primania, to not only see how people have styled pieces, but also to see what's new in store. I can often be found on youtube watching Primark hauls and jotting down a quick wish list of things I need to pick up on my next visit. You can upload your own photo to Primania of yourself styling their clothing, this is then shared on their website where others can get inspiration from your style. I love it, yet still haven't plucked up the courage to post my own looks yet!

4. New In Section.

Ahhh the one thing that makes my bank account cry, the new in section. I am forever re-freshing these to see what's just come in to store. It's a great way to see what trends are coming up for the next season, and also to help you see what items to expect in store. I like to see if I have anything similar in my own wardrobe, and then decided whether there are any key pieces I feel I need want to add to it. Beware though, things can get a little spendy.

5. Street Style.

I did a lot of this whilst backpacking around Europe. Find a cute coffee shop and perch outside and watch the world go by. Sometimes my greatest fashion inspirations are the people you see out and about doing their own thing. I love how unique everyone's style is, and this really helps me to develop my own personal style as well as admire other's. Grab yourself a cuppa and a notebook and off you go. Simple as that.

I hope this has helped you out of a style rut, or maybe your looking to expand your wardrobe for the new season ahead and didn't know where to start? Well all of these platforms are perfect places to begin, and most of them don't even require you to leave the house! Hoorah!

The Maxi Coat

I won't lie, I debated writing this post as I'm not 100% happy with how the photo's have turned out. However, I am happy with the outfit, hence the internal debate. I toyed with the idea of re-shooting it, but probably wouldn't have time until the new year, and I wanted you to have some chance of snapping up this absolute bargain of a coat. So throwing caution to the wind, we're rolling with it. Bad lighting and all.

I've been after a maxi coat for sometime, one that didn't drown me, or make me look shorter. With Christmas around the corner, I didn't have oodles to spend on myself, but when I came across this khaki, boyfriend style, maxi coat, sat in all it's glory in the aisles of..wait for it..Primark! I knew it belonged in my wardrobe.  Even better, it was on the sale rail, for a mere £10.00. Yup, you heard me right £10.00!

The khaki colour of the coat is the perfect alternative to your classic black jacket. It adds a subtle pop of colour, while still maintaining a very autumnal/winter vibe. The length is perfect, finishing mid calf, it doesn't swamp me, and I find the cut and fit of the coat very flattering.

With the coat being the star of the show, I decided to pair it with a somewhat understated base layer. A classic, grey, roll neck jumper, which you all know are staples in my winter wardrobe! A pair of plain black, high waist, skinny jeans, and black boots. A neutral, classic, base layer, made up of some great winter wardrobe staples.

I also think this coat could work perfectly with a classic little black dress, and some heeled boots. Perfect for those Christmas Parties, and for keeping warm!

In terms of accessories, I decided to keep these pretty understated as well. I opted for this stunning snowflake necklace from Jewellery Box, which I received from the lovely Sherry Scribbles. It's the perfect way to make any outfit festive, without being too in your face!

To complete the look I chose a very slouchy tote bag, also from Primark. This bag is amazing as it fits my camera, make-up, hairbrush, water bottle, purse and phone in easily, with plenty of room to spare. For a woman who likes to carry the kitchen sink around with her, a big bag is essential!

Slip Dress Styling

Happy Sunday! I managed to sneak in a cheeky outfit shoot as I am in love with this slip dress & T-shirt combo from Primark - I know I practically live in there!

Slip dresses have been a huge trend for a while now, from sexy slinky silk ones, to more edgy velvet ones, you name it there's a slip dress for it. However, I just felt with my body type the trend wasn't that flattering on me, that was until I saw this combination. I really like how the outfit is still girly with the cute ditsy daisy print, but it's made more wearable and casual by layering it over the top of this plain white tee.

The material is soft, airy and floaty, meaning that it's perfect for a summer's day. It could be worn bare legged with tan flats and a huge floppy hat, or even be worn with trainers for a sport luxe twist. The possibilities are endless, which is why it worked it's way into my ever expanding wardrobe.

As it was a Summer's night I decided to pair the slip dress with this over-sized, baby pink trench coat, also from Primark. I really like how the coat adds a pop of colour to the outfit, but it's still very season appropriate. The cut and fit of the jacket is very flattering and it moves easily with you, instead of not being able to lift your arms above waist height, wahoo!

I can definitely see myself wearing both these pieces endlessly throughout the rest of this season, and maybe even into next season! I'm already picturing it with knee high boots and a burgundy suede biker jacket, someone stop me!

I Have Nothing To Wear

After shooting this outfit, I realised that it's actually all from Primark! I just can't resist that place.

The first thing I saw when I was shopping was this 'I have nothing to wear' t-shirt, this sums me up perfectly! I'm always moaning that I have nothing to wear, when clearly I do.

I love dressing down, as much as dressing up now if I'm honest, casual wear is something I've been buying more of. I like the idea of adding pieces to my wardrobe that are versatile. I can picture myself being able pair this t-shirt with a floaty skirt and strappy sandals for a summer picnic, or with skinny black jeans, a leather jacket and heels for date night.

For this outfit I decide to go super casual, an everyday, running errands, kind of outfit. I decided to pair the t-shirt with a relaxed fit, light denim, pair of jeans, and a khaki utility style jacket. Both of which are also from Primark.  I think the key to casual dressing is all about the accessories, taking an outfit from plain, to styled. I chose this monochrome paisley neck tie, and rose gold sunglasses, to tie the whole look together.

Off Duty Attire

Top - New Look | Jeans - Primark | Scarf - New Look| Boots - Peacocks

This is another of my off-duty, everyday, from food shop to meeting friends, outfits. It's simple, practical, yet still very put together. I love these light wash, high waist denim jeans, they fit perfectly and are a great staple item for an every day spring look.

I own this roll neck top in a multitude of colours, they just go with everything! Even though it's meant to be spring - it was actually trying to snow yesterday! I still find that you can get away with wearing this style of top. I find the high neck is really flattering and gives any outfit a sophisticated edge. I would also pair this with my leather jacket, but these photos were taken in doors, as it was torrential rain outside.

Another piece that's followed me from winter, through to spring, is this gorgeous brown scarf, I love wearing it with my camel coat or my leather jacket. It adds a pop of colour and design to a fairly plain outfit, which gives just enough dimension to the look, without it being over-powering.

This outfit can be taken from day to night simply by adding a blazer and some pointed heels, making spontaneous drinks an easy option! Not that you needed an excuse right?!

The Must-Have Primark Shirt

I've finally gotten round to shooting a new outfit! All my clothes are still in boxes, but I may have made a cheeky Primark purchase, which I couldn't wait to share with you all.

I have been planning my Spring/Summer wardrobe, and really wanted a white detailed shirt, I browsed online, but didn't see anything I really loved. That's when I popped into Primark one day after work, and this little beauty caught my eye!

It's a white, box fit, roll sleeve, detailed shirt. It's the ultimate spring/summer piece, I can picture wearing it dressed up; with a printed skirt and block heels, or dressed down, with light-wash boyfriend jeans and snake print slip-on's.

This fit is very flattering, it's very structured with a box fit, that finishes just above the hips. The sleeve length is perfect for spring too as it's cool, without having to have your arms completely uncovered.

On this particular day I wanted a really casual look, so I paired all the classics together; black jeans, black boots, white shirt and a structured bag. I really love how it all worked, I felt put together with minimal effort required. I can see this being my easy go to look.

 Shirt - Primark | Jeans - Primark | Boots - Peacocks | Bag - Kurt Geiger

Now that the weather has started to warm up I have cracked out my favourite red lip, MAC's 'Ruby Woo'. It's the best summer red, and completes this classic look perfectly. I find it's too drying to wear in winter which is why I save it for when the days are warmer, and my lips are smoother!

So this is one of the pieces you will see me coveting this season, and it's such a bargain too for a versatile item!

Weekend Vibes

|Coat - H&M | Dress - Primark | Boots - New Look | Scarf - Primark | Bag - Kurt Geiger |

Hello Lovelies, is it just me, or is everyone else fed up with this dreary weather!? I've had enough of bundling up against the icy winds, and battling the rain every time I need to leave the house. That being said, last Sunday we pottered out for the day, and despite the weather being freezing I wore a dress! I know what you may be thinking, but I just loved the print so much, and I think it looked pretty paired with my knee length boots.

I picked up this cute high neck, daisy print, dress from Primark for around £13! I originally thought it would look great in summer, with tan sandals, a slouchy tan bag, red lips and a messy bun. Then the prospect of making it more winter worthy popped into my head, so I layered it with dark brown knee length boots, thick tights, a navy cardigan and my long line black coat. I really like how the outfit turned out. Though I won't say it was hugely warm it was worth it as I just couldn't wait to wear my new purchase, you know how it feels I'm sure!

Are you ready for some warmer weather?

Casual Faded Denim

    Coat - New Look | Shirt - Primark | Jeans - Primark | Pumps - Asda | Bag - Kurt Geiger | Sunglasses - Peacocks |

I love dressing up, but I love dressing casual even more. I find casual wear lets you be more creative with layering. Laid back chic is definitely the way forward. SS16 will see us donning more denim and more neutral tones. I thought this casual outfit marred the two of the perfectly, making it not only warm, but bang on trend too.

If you haven't already guessed, this camel coat is my favourite jacket at the moment, it's so easy to wear and goes with everything. I kinda need want to get it in grey too. I love how it has the structured fit, but also the relaxed feel to it. It's so cosy which is a major plus given he weather we've been having!

I paired a crisp white shirt (that's actually longline, but I tied it up!) and distressed blue denim jeans to finish off the off duty look.

I really love this look and definitely want to get some more fashion posts up soon!

What SS16 trends are you looking forward to?

Check Skirt- New Look
Black Boots- Primark
Berry Gloves- Primark
Bobble hat- Select Fashion
Lip Gift Set- Kiko

I've recently turned into some what of a shopaholic. I blame the Christmas music. I always go with the intention of solely buying Christmas gifts, but end up popping a few sneaky treats for my self in the basket too! Whoops!

The shops are bustling at the minute and the winter lines are irresistible. I love winter fashion, I particularly love layering. Which is why I have picked up a few pieces that I cannot wait to layer together.

I picked up this short sleeve, high neck, stripe top from Primark. I picture wearing it either casually with a leather jacket and black jeans or dressed up with a black skirt and black blazer.  It is a very versatile piece and it was something that was missing in my current wardrobe.

I also picked up a few winter accessories, including these wine coloured gloves which were only £1! Such a total bargain and they go really well with my new camel coat. I also got this adorable bobble hat which I can't wait to wear.

I am obsessed with these lace bras, I need them in every colour. This sexy piece is from New Look and it fits perfectly. I love all the delicate lace detail and fringing along the bottom.

Another New Look Purchase is this pale grey and cream skirt. I imagined wearing this with a polo neck jumper (of course!) Thick tights and heeled boots. It will also transition nicely into spring, paired with a pretty white shirt.

If you follow me on  you will have seen that I'm planning on doing a stocking filler gift guide, so I have been buying bits and bobs for that. I thought I would give you a sneak peak as to what to expect within the gift guide, so one of the pieces I chose was this 'Kiko Temptress Lip Set', which comes with a lip liner and lipstick. It's the perfect duo for the lipstick lover in your life, be it your mum, friend, sister, girlfriend it's bound to be the perfect stocking filler.

This bag is literally what dreams are made of. As much as I wish that I could afford the Chloe bag,  my budget just doesn't spread that far and therefore I opted for this stunning brown faux leather New Look dupe. It is a generous size not too big but big enough to fit all my essentials in.

I also needed some plain black flat ankle boots in my winter wardrobe, and these Primark ones were such a steal at £8.00.

Who can resist Christmas PJ's? Not me that's for sure. This Tartan night shirt is Christmas perfect, pass me the faux fur throw and hot chocolate. As well as Christmas PJ's there's also copper, copper everywhere. This cute little travel mug is from Primark and it's definitely a Bloggers dream beverage holder. Your welcome.

The final item I picked up was this chunky brown scarf from New Look, I got it to match my coat as I love a good thick scarf to snuggle under whilst I'm on my way to work.

So that's what I've bought recently, I hope I haven't tempted you too much!
